Daniel Szauter At The Pickin' Porch

Danny Szauter on the Pickin' Porch stage.

Many talented Country, Old-Time and Bluegrass Music performers have graced the Pickin' Porch stage over the years, and one of the best I have ever seen performed during last night's show: Daniel Szauter of the Forget-Me-Nots.

Daniel was in the Bristol area on vacation, so he dropped in and quietly sat down in the audience to enjoy the show. Before long, Pickin' Porch host Tim White had spotted him and coaxed him up onto the stage to sing and pick along with the last group of the evening.

Even though they reside in Canada, Daniel and the rest of the Szauter family have become quite close to Janette Carter and her family, and they visit and perform at the Carter Family Fold whenever the opportunity arises - usually at least twice a year.

Before Janette's brother Joe passed away, he had a very special guitar built out of persimmon wood. During one of the Szauter's visits, Joe invited Daniel to play his precious "persimmon guitar". Holding and picking that instrument was such a moving experience for Daniel that he wrote a song about it, aptly named "Joe's Persimmon Guitar".

Daniel now sings that beautiful song every time he gets up on a stage, and last night he sang it for the audience at the Pickin' Porch Show - and it was the highlight of the evening!
