The Szauter Family Choir

The Szauter Family Choir

Today's picture features the Szauter Family Choir from Ontario, Canada (in these parts they are simply known affectionately as "The Canadians"). The Szauter Family Choir, also known as The Forget-Me-Nots, performs a unique blend of Bluegrass, Country and traditional Austrian music...and they do it exceptionally well!

The Szauters are currently in the upper east Tennessee / southwest Virginia region for an extended visit with friends, and while they're here they'll be making the rounds at some of the area's most popular music venues. The photo above was taken during a rousing performance on last Thursday's Pickin' Porch Show.

Ingrid Seilern-Szauter, leader of the Forget-Me-NotsIt might seem odd that a family choir from Canada with Austrian roots performs Bluegrass and mountain music, but the Szauters are a very special group of people...

They have always loved traditional Appalachian music, and a few years ago they had the opportunity to visit the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia, a wonderful museum and performance venue dedicated to the lives, legacy and music of the original Carter Family. It was mutual love at first sight!

Ingrid Seilern-Szauter, the founder and heart of the Forget-Me-Nots, now calls the Carter Fold "home" even though she and her family reside north of the border. She proudly tells every audience she stands in front of all about her deep love for the Carter family and the "Fold", and without exception the audiences always love the Szauters.

This photo of Ingrid was taken on Saturday during the 31st annual Carter Family Memorial Festival & Craft Show. You're invited to visit the Forget-Me-Nots at their website.
