There was plenty of great Bluegrass
music emanating from the
Pickin' Porch stage last night, and most of it was courtesy of
Outta The Blue,
a wonderful family Bluegrass band from Lenoir City, Tennessee.
Sisters Michelle
Holloway, Sondra Ann Holloway and Laura Weaver team up for some outstanding
family harmony on vocals while their dad David plays a mean banjo and guitar.
Mom Nancy does an outstanding job as the group's manager and primary
songwriter. There are "family bands" in all musical genres, but they are quite common in the
world of Bluegrass. The love of Bluegrass music has long been handed down from
generation to generation throughout the southern Appalachian region, and many
youngsters are completely immersed in it while they are growing up. Pickin' and
singin' with mom, dad, siblings, aunts, uncles and friends is a prime source of
entertainment in such households. Bluegrass is family music, pure and simple.
Typical for a family band, Outta The Blue did a wonderful job
entertaining the live audience at last night's Pickin' Porch Show. Their
tight instrumentals and finely tuned vocal harmonies had the crowd applauding at
every opportunity. These folks really know how to pick and sing, and they did it
very well last night in Bristol.
