A Junk Car In The Desert
There are many junk cars sitting around all throughout the desert southwest.
Master photographer Scott Dommin found this one near Baker, Nevada. These old
cars seem to last forever - that is after all the usable parts have been stripped
away. There is little moisture in the air to cause them to rust away.
Collectors drive through the desert seeking out the old cars that are in
the best shape. They buy them from the landowner or simply load them onto a
truck and take them back to their shops and restore them. The demand
for these old relics has also created a new way for the locals to make money by
picking them up and selling them.
In many places, junk cars have become an important part of the desert landscape,
and if they all disappear these places simply won't look the same. The next time
you visit the desert southwest, take a look at the old cars sitting around -
they just might not be there the next time you drive through.
