Dusk

Dusk

Cheria and I often take evening walks down the narrow southwestern Virginia country road that we live on. We enjoy these quiet strolls very much since they give us an opportunity to get a little exercise while seeing our neighborhood from a different perspective. Walking hand-in-hand while surrounded by the sights and sounds of lightning bugs and crickets really soothes the soul after a long day.

One thing that I find very interesting is how the same landscape can look so differently depending on the time of day. The country scene featured in today's picture is a perfect example...

A few evenings ago, dusk came upon us as we were walking back up the road to our home, then a couple of minutes later the trees lining the road opened up giving us a surreal view of our neighbor's field. We had seen this particular landscape countless times during daylight hours, but that evening as the moon began its journey across the sky the ordinary was transformed into something special. Day was becoming night, and all of God's creations were preparing for it.

Out there in the growing darkness, the birds and bees were retiring for the night while the possums and 'coons were just getting ready for work...and we were witnessing one of nature's most dramatic changes as the sun slipped below the horizon and began to brighten another part of the world while ours drifted off into nocturnal bliss.
