A couple of days ago, my brother Glen agreed to loan us his
gas grill for a "cookout" party that we're hosting for
my mom in honor of her 79th
birthday. Well, when he arrived with the grill, he also pulled out a shiny set of
"Craftsman" grilling utensils - a set of tongs, a large fork and a
burger flipper.
As you probably know,
Craftsman is the famous
brand name that Sears uses for their high-quality
line of tools. And as you also
probably know, Sears guarantees any hand tool bearing the Craftsman logo
forever. If it ever breaks, they'll replace it, no questions asked!
I have used Sears' world-famous Craftsman guarantee on several occasions, and
the process is always quick and painless. You hand them the broken tool and they
hand you either a new one or a used one in working condition.
In a nutshell, if it says Craftsman on the handle and it breaks, they'll replace
it. It really is that
simple...unless the Craftsman logo happens to be on a grilling utensil!
Glen turned his Craftsman grilling tongs over, and lo and behold, right there on
the back of the handles was the following rather humorous disclaimer:
"Not Guaranteed Forever"
I guess Sears really wanted to drive
home the fact that the Craftsman "forever guarantee" doesn't apply to anything
besides hand tools. Message received, loud and clear. Let's just pray that
Glen's Craftsman grilling utensils keep going, and going, and going...Oh, sorry - wrong
brand!
