An Enormous Baseball Near Charlotte, NC

Water tower painted to look like a baseball.

Whenever Cheria and I travel, we always try to keep a camera at the ready in order to take advantage of any photographic opportunities that pop up. And since many of these opportunities arise when we're traveling down the interstate at highway speed, stopping to get a good shot usually isn't an option.

Such was the case last Sunday afternoon. We had driven our granddaughter Olivia down to Chester, SC to begin her annual "Amy vacation". We had to take her to Chester this year because Amy and Gene were skydiving that weekend and they were planning to just stay there instead of heading back to Wilmington. Well, after watching Amy and Gene fall out of the sky a couple of times on Saturday, we spent the night at a local hotel and departed for home on Sunday afternoon.

As we were heading back up I-77 towards Charlotte, I remembered seeing a huge baseball standing high above the trees just a few yards from the highway. This gigantic baseball is actually a water tower that has been painted to look like a baseball in honor of the Charlotte Knights - the Triple-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. I have always loved the game of baseball so I asked Cheria to try to get a picture or two as we drove past the enormous hardball. She did, and the result is the "Picture Of The Day".
