Plant Growing On Top Of A Log

Picture of a plant growing on top of a log.

As has been demonstrated in several previous "Pictures Of The Day", the will to survive is one of the strongest forces that God has instilled in all living things. Today's picture of a plant growing on top of an old log is yet another example.

In order to survive, plants need food (nutrients), air, water and light, and it appears that this plant is getting everything it needs. Since the log is lying in a stream bed and actively soaking up water, the water, air and light isn't a problem. But where is the plant getting its nourishment from? Is it feeding off of the decaying log itself or was its "food" deposited on top of the log at some point from a swollen creek? Whatever the answer, this plant certainly seems to be getting everything it needs to survive and thrive!

Cheria discovered this old log the other day as she was walking along the creek that runs through our property. She thought it looked interesting so she snapped a couple of pictures of it. Although we've been here since October, we still find new and interesting things to look at and photograph almost every day!
