Mare Nursing Her Foal

A mare nursing her foal.

God has instilled in the females of virtually every animal species the instinct to be a good mother, and today's picture featuring a mare nursing her foal is an excellent example. There stands mama, patiently waiting for her young'un to finish off what is undoubtedly a great meal - an event that is repeated several times a day by millions of mothers ranging from tiny field mice to the mighty elephants.

Regardless of the species, a mother nursing her child is one of life's most precious and obvious acts of love, the purest symbol of what it means to be a mother. Taking care of her child until it is able to care for itself is the ultimate responsibility - and sacred privilege - of a mom.

Every time I see a scene like the one above, I'm reminded of my own precious mother, a wonderful woman who has spent her entire life caring for and worrying about the development, heath, safety and salvation of her children and grandchildren. Mom has lived a long and happy life due in large part to the love and nurturing she received from her own mother - and that which she passed on to her kids. And she is still going strong today.

About the photo: A wonderful lady by the name of Phyllis Helton took this touching photo when she took her daughter to "horse camp" a few years ago. Thanks for the great picture Phyllis!
