Cheria and I have been eagerly anticipating the blossoming of the hundreds of
irises growing in our back yard, and this week they finally burst out into
full bloom. In proportion to the overall yard, the iris bed really isn't that
large, but when you're standing next to it it looks like a sea of purple, blue
and green!
Irises
are among my favorite flowers because they remind me of my mom. She always had
plenty of irises growing in her flower beds, and I'm very happy that we have so
many growing in ours.
Like mom, these spectacular flowers stand tall when the
winds of the world blow against them, their iron will and beauty shining through for all the
world to see.
We have a few very pretty orange irises growing out back as well, but the purple
ones will always be my favorites because I grew up watching mom work with them
in the fall so they would be ready to burst into bloom in the spring - and they
always did!
For everything there is a season, and I know that one day mom's season here on
earth will be over...but she'll blossom anew in the presence of her Lord,
helping Him tend a garden more beautiful than any we have ever seen or can even
imagine. Until then, she can enjoy her irises - and ours - while she awaits the
master's call.
