Storm Brewing Over A Hayfield

Hayfield

Cheria and I were driving down a country road through Widener Valley, Virginia the other day when we saw some dark clouds brewing over a hayfield and the nearby river knobs. The sun was still shining on the tall grass, in stark contrast to the dark sky that was seemingly just a few hundred yards away. It was quite a pretty sight, so we stopped the car and I snapped a few pictures.

There are many hayfields in Widener Valley and all throughout southwestern Virginia, and they provide fodder for my amateur photography outings on a regular basis. Whether the hay has already been cut and rolled or still standing tall and blowing in the breeze, I love to take pictures of the scenic beauty of the typical family farm!

Just a short while after this photograph was taken, much of the region was slammed by a series of severe thunderstorms. Pounding rain, hail and gusty winds took their toll on the area bringing down numerous trees while flash floods washed away everything in or near the river and stream beds. During the entire evening and most of the night we received one deluge after another.

But the next day the sun was out, the birds were singing, and everyone was happy simply to be alive and well. God brings the rain, but He also brings the sunshine...and it appears that this summer He's going to give us plenty of both!
