Selecting the Right URL for your Website

Posted on April 11, 2012

If you want your website to represent a certain brand, you need to make sure that you choose the right URL to drive as much traffic to your site as possible. The right URL can drive direct as well as organic traffic, leading to tons of visitors to your site.

Here are some excellent tips to help you choose the right URL for your company:

Make it Memorable

First things first, your URL should be simple and easy to remember. Think of the most popular sites out there that people visit on a daily basis: Google, Facebook, Reddit. All of these names are short, sweet, and to the point. If your business creates some ridiculously long name that is hard to spell and takes more than a few seconds to type out, consider something else.

Make it Unique

When choosing a domain name, it should be extremely unique. You don’t want to be lumped in with other companies, do you? Try to choose a URL with a name that will be all your own. It does not even matter if you made up the word or not, but make sure that it doesn’t relate to another popular company that is already out there. If you make that mistake, visitors may assume that both companies are related or worse. [Read more…]

How to Repair Leaks on a Flat Roof

Posted on April 11, 2012

A flat roof is a type of covering that has a slope of one to five degrees. Also known as low-pitch roof, it is constructed to sit horizontally or nearly horizontally on top of the building and acts as a level platform that provides support to the load.

Flat roofs have been widely used in residential and commercial spaces in regions where the climate is warm, rainfall is less, and freezing is unlikely to occur. Such a roof  type is not advised to be used in areas where it might be saturated by leak and rain, or in areas where snowfall is heavy as it may end up breaking.

As with any other roofing system, a flat roof may develop leaks years before the whole roof needs a replacement. Often the leaks are caused by a blistered or a cracked area, which can sometimes be hard to locate. If you own a house that has a flat roof, it is vital that you regularly address its maintenance needs. This way, you can be assured that your roofing system will last a long time. [Read more…]

Can Your Baby’s Name Influence Them?

Posted on April 11, 2012

When considering a baby’s name, most parents will consider how it sounds, whether they like it or not, whether their child may get teased with it and if it goes with their surname. But do they really give much thought to how it might shape your child’s personality or influence their life?

Well perhaps we should, as although there is not conclusive evidence that we are shaped by our names, some studies show that a name can affect a person’s self confidence, personality attributes and more.

This research states that boys with girly sounding names are more likely to misbehave in school. This could be to do with teasing from their peers, or feeling slightly ‘outside’ the social norm, so acting up to gain attention or to fit in. Boys with unisex names such as Riley, Ashley, Kylie, Jo/e and Jody were more likely to misbehave if there was a girl in the class who shared their name. [Read more…]

4 Healthy Ways To Eat Chocolate

Posted on April 10, 2012

Chocolate doesn’t quite have the reputation of being a healthy food, but the truth is that in small to moderate amounts, and when it’s the right type of chocolate, you can get important antioxidant flavanoids from chocolate. Here are a few ways to satisfy your chocolate cravings without compromising your health, or your weight:

1 – Dark chocolate: solid or melted

Dark chocolate is one of the healthier forms of chocolate because it is high in pure cacao and has the least amount of butter and milk fats than milk chocolate. Dark chocolates without any milk fat at all are readily available and fairly common. Throw a bar in your bag and just eat it piece by piece.

If you want something a little more gourmet, take a bowl of dark chocolate pieces and place it in a pot of water in the stove. Make sure the bowl of chocolate stays in the water but without the water getting into the bowl and chocolate. Heat the water to a low boil and stir the chocolate in the bowl to make it melt. Grab some bananas, strawberries, nuts, or anything that you want to dip in chocolate and get to it! [Read more…]
