10 Eco cleaning tips for your home

Posted on March 26, 2011

To ensure that your home is clean and safe without harming the environment, you need to get rid of toxic habits and products, and choose your replacements with an eye on their environmental credentials. When your home is free of pollutants, you breathe, sleep and concentrate better, babies become less fussy, and you have an increased overall sense of well-being. Here’s some eco cleaning tips to help make your home a healthy place to live.

1. Eliminate Poison – If you look under your sink, you will probably find a ton of products that say warning, danger, or caution. There are always trace amounts of fumes leaking out of caps and nozzles at all times. Unfortunately these poisonous fumes pollute your air, even when not in use. These products are dangerous to you, your children and your pets.

2. Learn to Use Non Toxic Products – You may be surprised at how easy, safe, and inexpensive it is to make your own cleaning products using ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon. You do not need harsh chemicals to clean, treat stains, or perform other heavy duty cleaning tasks. Every time you spray toxic cleaning products in your home, you are polluting the air that you breathe.

How to look like a million for a whole lot less!

Posted on March 26, 2011

Have you ever wondered why the girl in the office across the hall always looks like she just stepped out of a magazine, especially when you know she makes less than you do? Do you want to know her secrets? Then read on!

There’s a difference between browsing the sale racks when you go into a store and being a discount shopper. A big difference. A true discount shopper regularly uses the web to score percentage off coupons, BOGO (buy one/get one) offers, free shipping codes, and additional discounts for ordering online.

The discount shopper will go one step further by being on the electronic mailing lists of his/her favorite places to shop in order to get advanced notice of sales, as well as special preferred customer incentives. Oh, and a true discount shopper isn’t an impulse buyer; he/she buys what is needed at the best possible price.

Retailers know you have less to spend these days and that they have to work hard to earn the privilege of taking your money. Here are some places and ways you can save and look like you didn’t…

Why do some countries drive on the right and others on the left?

Posted on March 25, 2011

Living (and loving) Life

The majority of the countries in the world drive on the right side of the road – around 66.1% of all people live in right hand traffic countries. Right hand traffic simply means that when you’re driving a car, you drive next to the right side of the road instead of the left. Usually, drivers in right side countries sit on the left side of the car in order to have the best possible line of sight down the road.

Some countries drive on the left side of the road though – around 33.9% of people live in such countries. Australia, the Bahamas, South Africa, India, the United Kingdom, Japan, Jamaica, Nepal, Kenya and New Zealand are just a few of the countries that drive on the left side of the road.

Solar powered touch screens on the way

Posted on March 25, 2011

I guess this falls into the “What will they think of next?” category. A company by the name of Greendix has developed a solar panel in the form of a “frame” that can fit around touch screens of all sizes. The solar electricity generated by the frame will add to the battery life of devices ranging from cell phones to GPS units to laptops, and more.

It seems that solar technology is popping up everywhere these days. Of course we’ve had solar powered calculators for years, and I recently saw an ad for a solar powered computer keyboard. But now we can expect to shortly be able to harness the virtually unlimited power of the sun to help keep our tech products running ever longer!

Tips for holding a successful yard sale

Posted on March 24, 2011

Well, it’s springtime again, and that means it’s time to start planning that yard sale you’ve been wanting to hold in order to clean out your closets. If you’ve tried your hand at yard sales before with little or no luck, here are a few tips that could help make your next one a huge success:

1  – Have your yard sale on Friday or Saturday (or both). Yes, you will be competing with all the other yard sales going on in your neighborhood, but the fact of the matter is very few people will stop at a yard sale on any other day of the week. Why? Who knows, but it’s a fact.

2 – Have everything out and be ready for business shortly after dawn. Most yard salers are early birds, and once they buy a few items they tend to head on back home with the booty.

3 – Make sure all clothing items are clean and neatly folded. Better yet, place the shirts on hangers and hang them up for easy shopping if at all possible.
