Is there anything more exhilarating than being in love?

Posted on May 3, 2011

We often measure our lives either by the material possessions we have, the achievements we have made (count the number of trophies or certificates you have in your study) or the success of your job or career.

But underneath all this veneer, are we truly happy? Many of us like to remain single because of the freedom it gives. But as we age, we realize that time will soon be merciless to us and we start to wish more and more to find the person we would like to grow old with. The lifetime partner who we can love and serve and who can love us for who we truly are.

Some people try to put a comparison between men and women staying single but, in truth, the feeling of emptiness and an unfulfilled life is the same for both. When the loneliness starts to creep in, the feeling of desolation takes over. This is especially true for singles who have experienced tragic love lives in the past and decided to give up and just throw in the towel.

So here’s a personal story and experience I would like to share with you…

How to consolidate credit card debt

Posted on May 2, 2011

Credit card debt is probably the most well-known type of debt aside from mortgage and car loan debt. Credit cards are an essential part of the economy. Consumers use them for both personal and business expenditures.

Unfortunately, using credit cards irresponsibly is the quickest way to get into trouble with creditors yet devised. The total amount of outstanding credit card debt in the United States was in excess of $2.4 trillion in 2010. Dividing that number by the total number of people in the United States works out to approximately $9,000 for every person.

This large amount is probably smaller now in 2011. Consumers have been paying down the debt they racked up during the last boom from 2003 to 2007. People overwhelmed by their debt loads have been eagerly seeking out methods of paying off creditors. Plenty of debtors have been forced to file for bankruptcy. Others have sought out credit card debt consolidation for help. Consolidating credit card debt by transferring outstanding balances to the card with the lowest interest rate is a well-known method of restructuring the total debt load. It is a way to avoid debt consolidation loans while still responsibly handling debt.

Ten tips for successful potty training

Posted on May 2, 2011

Potty training is a phase that every child will need to go through at some point but it is often considered by many to be a traumatic experience for both the child and the parents. But by following these ten simple tips, you can avoid much of the fuss and bother surrounding this otherwise ordinary life skill:

1 – Know when your child is ready

Each child is unique, so you need to recognize the signs that your child is ready to start potty training. Children develop at different speeds, so you need to begin potty training when they are ready, which is usually around the age of two. You need to slowly introduce the idea of going potty in the potty chair.

2 – Introduce him/her to the toilet

When your child is ready to begin the process of potty training, show him/her the toilet and explain that it is not scary or intimidating. Many people get a little potty and have them sit on it while you are going to the bathroom. If they have any older siblings, have them watch their brother or sister use the toilet. Children love to copy everything other people do.

Signs that your dog might have allergies

Posted on May 2, 2011

I had been treating my dog, Scout, for ear infections for a few years until my vet shed light on the underlying problem. He has allergies. All his life I just thought Scout was prone to ear infections, and had a few odd habits, but they were all signs that he had allergies. If your dog has been exhibiting the following behaviors he/she may have allergies too, and it’s important to discuss it with your vet.

The biggest sign is frequent ear infections that are usually seasonal. Of course I noticed that Scout had more ear infections in the summer however I assumed it was related to all the swimming he does. After I spoke to my vet he explained that the water doesn’t cause ear infections but it can make them worse.

Advice on replacing HP Pavilion p6610f hard drive

Posted on May 1, 2011

Question:

I have a 2 year old HP Pavilion p6610f desktop PC. The hard drive died a month after the warranty expired and I need some advice about installing a replacement drive. Speed is more important to me than cost when making the repair.

In a nutshell, would it be better to simply buy the fastest hard drive I can find or replace the defective drive with an SSD? Thanks!  –Cameron L.

Answer:

Cameron, I recommend that you replace the bad hard drive with a small SSD (say 64 GB) and then add-on a high-speed USB 3.0 external drive. Then install the operating system and swap file on the SSD to drastically speed up the boot process and overall operation while putting your programs and data on the external drive.

As you probably know, your Pavilion p610f doesn’t have native USB 3.0 ports, but you can easily install a 2-port USB 3.0 expansion card into an empty PCI Express slot. Although the USB 3.0 drive will be backward compatible with the PC’s existing USB 2.0 ports, installing the USB 3.0 PCIe card should be a no-brainer since it will only cost you around $30 and the speed increase for the drive will be substantial.
