Finding fun things to do with the grandkids

Posted on May 26, 2011

Whether you get to see your grandkids everyday or every few years, you undoubtedly want to make the most of that precious time. However, it can often be tough to come up with ideas for activities that keep you and your little buddies happy. Here are some ideas of things you can do to make those special visits extra memorable!

Reminisce about days gone by

If you think your grandkids aren’t interested in the “good old days,” think again! Older kids especially would probably be fascinated to hear about how things used to be. Pull out old photo albums or scrapbooks to show them pictures of you, your family, and your friends, and talk about some of your most fond memories.

5 requirements your child must meet to use adult seat belts

Posted on May 19, 2011

When does the day come when your youngster can buckle up with an adult seat belt? The law in most states requires kids to be in a car seat until they reach a height of at least 4 feet 9 inches.

Today parents are very aware of safety issues relating to their children. Children’s car seats have made a big difference in kid’s safety but auto accidents are still the number one cause of death for those under the age of 6.

Children should be in a safe car seat from newborn to 100 pounds

A child is put into an infant or convertible car seat from the day they’re born until probably when they reach a weight of around 100 pounds. They start with a rear facing seat which ensures top level safety as they sit in a seat that has to meet federal safety minimum standards.

They then graduate to a front facing seat but still are secured by a 5 point harness and the seat is normally latched to the car itself rather than just a seat belt.

Ideas for ‘Get Well’ sentiments that will uplift and inspire

Posted on May 14, 2011

Are you stuck for inspiration? Compiling a heart-felt message within a “Get Well” card is a difficult task, particularly if the person you are writing it for is suffering terminally or has overcome something life-threatening.

Studies have shown that positive encouragement, coupled with humor and social interaction has assisted those who are ill, significantly speeding up the recovery process. This is, in part, thanks to the projected wishes and positive thoughts communicated through Get Well Greeting Cards, along with the appropriate get well sentiments that are tailored to the individual.

Setting The Tone

The tone of your card is largely dependent upon it’s intended recipient, and why he/she is under the weather. A friend or colleague with whom you are well acquainted, may have broken a limb in a fall. Under these circumstances, it is generally acceptable to use some form of humour, or “banter” within your card, applicable to injury. Having said that, the tone of such comedy should also reflect the nature of the accident. If your friend was involved in something horrific, such as a car crash, it’s doubtful they will want any reference made to that incident as it brings back difficult memories.

The language of flowers

Posted on May 12, 2011

The Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton highlighted an often forgotten Victorian tradition where people used flowers to express their feelings. This practice goes under the name of floriography and when Kate Middleton chose the icing designs for the wedding cake her choice of flowers was crucial.

These are the flowers she chose:

White rose, daffodil, shamrock and thistle for the England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

Strength and endurance were symbolized by acorns and an oak leaf.

The power of ‘FREE’

Posted on May 10, 2011

It’s amazing what we will do to get something for free.

Take Wi-Fi for example. This morning, I decided to try out a new coffee shop. Since my laptop has become essentially an extension of my arm, I just assume (mistakenly) that every coffee shop offers free Wi-Fi.

They had great coffee. But you had to pay for access to their wireless network. Being a cheapskate at heart, I refused.

Instead, I hopped back on my scooter and wasted gas driving to go to another coffee shop. Then I proceeded to spend another $2 on another cup of coffee. So here I am overly caffeinated and pondering the psychology of spending.
