Ways to Make Your Bedroom a Sleep-Easy Haven

Posted on March 7, 2012

There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep. Sleep is essential for health and happiness and, without it, irritability and misery quickly surface. While we all know how important sleep is, the stress of modern life can make it difficult to switch off enough at the end of the day to achieve a good night’s rest.

Thankfully, with a little preparation you can increase your chances of a restful night. Here are a few things that can help:

1 – The Bed

One of the most important things that you need to achieve a good night’s sleep is a comfortable bed. The frame itself needs to meet your needs whilst too soft or too hard a mattress may cause you to find it hard to sleep. If you find it difficult to find a comfortable sleeping position you may want to investigate adjustable beds as these can be tailored to meet your individual needs. [Read more…]

How To Get Rid of Wasps

Posted on March 7, 2012

With Spring almost here, many of us will soon be throwing open our doors and windows and enjoying the warmer days and longer evenings. However, it’s also the time when wasps start looking for a suitable place to build their new nests. If you don’t fancy being plagued by these unwanted pests and having to contact a wasp nest removal company this summer it’s best to be on your guard.

The wasp’s lifecycle starts in the Spring, when the queen comes out of her winter hibernation. At this time of year there are no active nests, just queens looking for a place to build their home for the summer.

Be vigilant and watch for queens trying to gain access to tight crawl spaces – lofts, sheds and garages are typically places where nests are built. If you spot a wasp buzzing around these areas it’s likely that they’ve chosen a site, so preventing access to these crawl spaces is your first line of defense against wasps making your home their home. Five Signs Your Roof May Need Replacing

Posted on March 6, 2012

When contemplating whether you should, need, or must replace your roof it can be difficult to remove yourself from the equation and simply look at the facts. However, physical evidence that your roof needs replacing is not the only knowledge you need to factor into your decision. Is your heating bill higher than average? A good roof can cut costs almost in half. If you notice your bill is rising, it might be time to consider biting the bullet. That’s just one of many reasons you should consider replacing your roof.

The following is a list of five telltale signs that your roof will need to be replaced:

1 – Curling shingles

When singles start to curl or claw it means they are becoming too rigid and may break off in a heavy wind or ice storm. Shingles usually begin to curl due to excessive heat or old age. If you’ve had a good roof for over 15-20 years, it is probably time to replace those old shingles again. [Read more…]

Using Vacuum Cleaners For Pest Control

Posted on March 5, 2012

For most of us vacuum cleaners serve their purpose and that’s enough for us. However there is one area that vacuum cleaners can really serve a true purpose at a fraction of the cost, but we wouldn’t think to ask. You don’t even need the best vacuum cleaners to get this job done; pest control can be sorted out at a fraction of the cost using your trusty vacuum cleaner, and we’re going to show you how.

Pick Your Weapon

This first step is to decide what kind of vacuum cleaner you’re going to use. A vacuum with a hose is perfect for reaching the roof as well as irregular surfaces. A rotating brush is most effective at removing bugs and the scraps on which they feed, while a HEPA filter greatly reduces airborne particles which are harmful to those with allergies. Be warned if you’re attempting pest control however. Bagless vacuum cleaners can clog up filters quite rapidly if you’re going after irregular items while disposable bags are cheap and might not put as much strain on the filter. [Read more…]

Protecting Wild Bird Food From Squirrels

Posted on February 21, 2012

It’s probably one of the most common annoyances of garden bird watchers: a cheeky squirrel finding new and clever ways to steal the wild bird food you have put out for the birds.

While some might find it entertaining to watch squirrels get in to nearly any type of feeder and stealing food, while scaring away your garden birds, others get quite irritated by the little creatures. Not only are they eating food intended for birds that are perhaps more in need of the nutrition, they might even cause many birds to look for their food supply elsewhere.

So what can you do to tackle the determined squirrels in your garden and make sure your feathered friends keep coming back? [Read more…]
