Low Back Pain: A Common, Not So Welcome Guest

According to chiropractor Dr. Jeff Echols, about 80% of the population at some point will experience back pain so severe that they will be unable to work or complete daily tasks.  With these odds, it is a good idea to understand some common causes of low back pain.

Dr. Echols mentions that one common cause of low back pain is referred pain from internal organs. In men, especially middle aged or older men, the prostate is a frequent culprit for causing low back pain.

If a man exhibits low back pain and prostate symptoms it is a wise idea to see a medical doctor to examine his prostate.  Prostate related symptoms often include difficulty urinating, inability to completely empty the bladder, frequent urination, or urgency to urinate. [Read more…]

Parenting Tips for Teaching Kids Good Dental Habits

It is so important to instill good dental habits in your kids. Teaching them how to brush and floss properly not only protects their oral health but it also teaches them responsibility.

When your children first sprout some teeth to take care of, it is the parents that have to take full responsibility for the tooth care since the babies are too young. Just put a thin smear of toothpaste on a soft toothbrush and brush the teeth on all sides twice a day. I personally chose to use a toothpaste without flouride in it until my children learned to rinse and spit without swallowing.

You can start increasing the quantity of toothpaste a bit too as they learn to spit more efficiently. Also don’t overlook flossing! I made this mistake and found out at the dentist office that cavities can develop between the teeth when flossing is overlooked even in children. [Read more…]
