Cancer Causers to Remove From Your Home

Posted on May 31, 2012

Here in the 21st century we live in a world where the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat can be carcinogenic (i.e. cancer-causing). It seems that if we are to lead normal lives and not head for the mountain tops, we will inevitably be exposed to some of these substances while going about our business.

And while we can work to make the air, water and food we consume cleaner and healthier, there are limits to what we can do to remove these carcinogens from our environment.

Something that is firmly under our control, however, is the presence of cancer-causing substances in our homes. I have taken steps to remove as many of these kinds of things from my home environment, and so should you – at least you will know that your home surroundings are free from common carcinogens.

Here are some of the most common cancer causers to remove from your home: [Read more…]

Salad Days: Healthy Eating for Summer!

Posted on May 29, 2012

For many of us, summer is the most enjoyable time of the year, and eating for the season can make it even more enjoyable than ever.

Seasonality and Ambient Temperature

Have you ever noticed that during the summer months you naturally eat a different range of things compared to what you consume during winter time?

Some of this is no doubt down to seasonality. All the lovely salad leaves and fruit that are in season right now – don’t they look great? And later in the year when they’re still available (although only as imports) somehow they’re not quite as much of a draw.

Of course, on top of seasonality there’s ambient temperature. While eating a chilled meal like a salad or cold cuts of meat is fun when it’s warm and sunny outside, somehow this becomes impossible during the winter, when we crave hot meals that are big on comfort.  And all too often, also big on fat and calories. Sciatica: Relieve the Pain With Chiropractic Adjustments

Posted on May 29, 2012

My dad lived with lower back pain for years and the doctor recommended surgery. He had the surgery and still was not completely pain free. When I started having issues, I was afraid that this was going to be my future as well. This worried me and each time I had a sciatic pain episode, I was sure that it was going to be the one that I could not get over.

Months passed with me having pain, numbness and tingling every few months or so, until I decided that I was going to try something different than just medications to treat the symptoms.

Research Helped Me Decide

I did some research online and found dozens of videos and articles discussing the effect that chiropractic adjustments could have on sciatic pain. While I was nervous about going to a chiropractor, I wanted to ensure that I did not end up like my dad, so I made an appointment. [Read more…]

Teaching Children to Eat Healthy

Posted on May 29, 2012

The lessons our children learn early on in their lives will guide their behaviors and habits as they get older.

With more and more kids developing problems related to obesity, it is now, more than ever, important to teach our kids to adopt healthy eating habits, including eating healthy foods, getting exercise, and understanding about foods.

As a parent, it is extremely important to me to ensure my children eat healthy. I don’t want them asking for McDonald’s and Taco Bell, but rather burgers that can be (healthily) made at home or a fun, yet healthy, taco night. Mmmm….taco night.

How do I get my kids to eat healthy foods? [Read more…]

How to Safely Enjoy the Sun

Posted on May 29, 2012

Well, it’s that time of year. The sun is out and not only does the sun make it extremely hot outside, but it can literally burn your skin because of the immense intensity and glare that it produces every single day upon your skin.

This damage done to your skin is called a sunburn. Sunburns are very common in the world today and are something that almost every individual has to deal with sometime in their life.

Sunburns often come from participating in various activities such as boating, or sports like volleyball or swimming. However, sunburns occur from doing anything in the sun. You could simply be spending some time working in the yard and after being inside for a little your skin could blister up because of the heat that you recently put it through. [Read more…]
