How to Rock Red Lipstick

Posted on March 5, 2012

Lips, along with eyes, are the most noticed area on the face, therefore smeared and faded red lipstick is clearly out of the question. The most obvious way to make one’s lipstick endure the challenges of an average day is to have quality makeup.

Rarely will one find a three dollar lipstick that won’t later be relocated onto a coffee cup or wine glass in the form of an unsightly red smear. But quality and price tags aside, there are still certain steps one can take to make that bright red pout last longer.

Step 1 – Base your lips. Dust on a translucent face powder or foundation; creating a base for your lips helps the lipstick adhere better, and creates a more vivid red to really make the color pop.

Step 2 – Line your lips. With a nude lip pencil, rim your lips carefully. It is essential to outline your lips with a lip liner each time you apply lipstick, especially the red shades. This prevents feathering of the lip color. [Read more…]

Posted on June 28, 2011

Designer dresses are usually expensive, and for good reason. These are quality works, produced for limited times and in limited quantities, and sometimes it’s worth it to buy one for the comfort and pleasure it brings. Indeed, for someone who’s particular and discriminating about her clothing, only designer dresses will do.

For a lot of women, though, buying such expensive apparel seems to be out of the question. There are always other, more pressing priorities to be considered, from the expenses of daily living to saving up for their children’s future.

However, it is possible to do both – a woman can look and feel good without going beyond her budget. If you’re wondering how, we’ve compiled a few tips for finding the best designer dresses at a discount:

1 – Be a savvy online shopper. Online shops often have promotional offers for their products, and designer dresses are no exception. Ditch that dependence on offline boutiques and department stores and be the first to learn of online blowout sales by joining mailing lists, signing up at an online fashion store, and regularly searching for designer clothes on sale to get the best deal. Online auctions are another great resource.

Posted on June 13, 2011

At some time around 1665 the Dutch master Johannes Vermeer painted a portrait entitled Girl with a Pearl Earring. It has become one of the most famous and instantly recognizable oil paintings in the world. The focus of the portrait is, of course, the pearl earring itself; but what that earring really does is focus our attention on the girl wearing it and, in particular, the beautiful luminosity of her flawless complexion.

That unblemished skin was a sign of health, purity, and beauty all those years ago and, today, nothing has changed. We still see the complexion as the first and most vital indicator of loveliness and it’s as vital for those in today’s media spotlight as it was more than 350 years ago.

So, who are today’s Girls with Pearl Earrings? Who are the stars of stage and screen whose luminous and flawless skins set them at the forefront of the pantheon of beauty?

Here are five women who, we think, have by nature or design (or a little bit of both!) matched the perfection of Vermeer’s creation:
