Veterans Memorial Park - Abingdon, Virginia
Today's picture features Veterans Memorial Park in Abingdon,
Virginia. Many cities and towns across America are now building these parks
as a way of honoring and remembering those who have served our nation and helped
keep us free.
As a veteran myself, I well understand the significance of these memorials. For
more than 230 years one brave man and woman after another has put on a United
States military uniform and served our great country with honor and valor, often
at great personal, professional and financial sacrifice. Our unmatched freedom
rests squarely on the backs and graves of these citizen soldiers.
Abingdon's Veterans Memorial Park is located at the corner of Cummings and Cook
Streets just off of exit 17 of Interstate 81 - just look for the flags flying high on the hill.
