St. Mary Lake In Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park's St. Mary Lake

Northwestern Montana's portion of Glacier National Park boasts some of the most stunning scenery on the planet. Unlike most national parks, Glacier is a pristine wilderness park - except for a few small access roads the park is pretty much the way God made it thousands of years ago.

While there are still a few small glaciers in Glacier National Park, the main attractions are the towering mountains and pristine lakes that remained when most of the ice melted after the last ice age. One of the most beautiful of these lakes is St. Mary Lake which is featured in today's picture.

St. Mary Lake lies on the eastern side of the continental divide. Deep, blue water ringed by tall, steep mountain cliffs make St. Mary a breathtaking sight, but be prepared for the wind when you visit because the eastern half of Glacier National Park is almost always very windy.

There are lots of exciting things to see and do at Glacier National Park and St. Mary Lake including world-class fishing, hiking, camping and much more. But many people visit the park just to see the spectacular scenery, and they usually leave with enough wonderful photographs and memories to last a lifetime!
