Moving A House

House movers in the process of moving a house.

An opportunity to see professional house movers in the process of actually moving a house doesn't come along very often. In fact, most people live their entire lives without ever seeing it. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones...

When my brother's neighbors bought a new home, he acquired their old house - with one stipulation: he had to remove it from their property. The structure was in good shape so he decided to move it intact onto his own land.

He hired New Way House Movers of Middlesboro, Kentucky to extract the house from its foundation and move it several hundred yards to it's new location. Today was the big day, so I arrived bright and early this morning with camera in hand!

Moving a house is a very slow process. The sides of the building extend quite a bit past the wheel base of the transporter on either side, so the house movers had to be extremely careful not to let it tip over. Keeping this house level was extremely difficult because they had to move it across land with a fairly steep slope. They stopped and leveled the house several times along the way. If you look carefully under the left-hand side you'll see the silhouette of a man under there - and they were actually moving the house at the time!

These house movers really knew what they were doing. They successfully moved the house from one home site to another without so much as breaking a window. All in all, it was quite a sight to see!
