Sunset At La Jolla Shores
Today's picture features a magnificent sunset at La Jolla Shores, a mile-long
sandy beach in La Jolla, California, one of the most affluent communities in the
most affluent of all the United States!
The beach at La Jolla shores boasts some of the most gentle waves to be found anywhere
along the
entire California coast, making it a favorite for swimming and SCUBA diving.
And even though the waves are generally very small, surfing is also popular here. But
just because the surf is gentle that doesn't mean you can let your guard down - as
always, when enjoying the ocean anywhere in the Golden State it is prudent to
watch out for rip currents.
With the only beachfront boat launch within the San Diego city limits, launching a small boat at La Jolla Shores is a breeze if you have a four wheel drive vehicle.
Just be sure to drive on the sand only within the designated areas, and at 5 MPH
or less.
La Jolla Shores is just minutes from downtown San Diego, so getting there is
easy. If you're coming from the north, follow I-5 south and exit at west La Jolla Village Drive. Then turn left at Torrey Pines Road and continue straight ahead to La Jolla Shores Drive. If you're coming from the south, follow I-5 north and exit at Ardath Road. Turn
onto La Jolla Shores Drive, left at Avenida de la Playa, then right onto Camino del
Oro.
