What do you do once you’ve hit publish? Do you just sit back and wait for something magic to happen, or do you go out and make it happen?
It’s easy to just sit back and hope for the best, but if you really want to take advantage of your great content you should follow these 5 steps as soon as you hit publish:
1 – Tweet the post to your followers.
People are crazy about Twitter. It’s one of the biggest social networking platforms in the world and people are always signed in. What easier way is there to let people know you have new content than to put it straight in front of their face.
They’re on Twitter because they want to know what exciting links people have for them so you’re just supplying the demand. It only takes 2 seconds and can bring in lots of traffic.
2 – Share it on Facebook with your fans.
If people are crazy for Twitter, they’re absolutely nuts for Facebook. They signed up to your fan page because they want to read your content. Let them know about it.
Facebook can bring in a flood of traffic from the people who already know you, and it can also bring in more traffic when people share it with their friends.
3 – If you mention anyone, let them know.
If you mention another blogger in your post then you should email them and let them know. That’s if you’re saying something nice. Everyone loves to hear people saying something nice about them. They love it so much they want other people to know about it.
This means they will tell their readers which results in a flood of traffic to your site.
4 – Show off your brilliance.
Have you written something you consider to be absolutely amazing? Is it so unique that everyone will want to read it? Well sadly, not many people will get the opportunity if you don’t tell them it’s there.
Make a quick list of every blogger you know that might be interested in what you’ve written and would want to share with their readers. You never know, you might get lucky and your post could go viral.
Once something goes viral you get the recognition you deserve. All because you made the effort to email someone and let them know it existed.
5 – Use the power of social bookmarking.
Everyone has their favorite: Reddit, StumbleUpon, Pintrest… the list goes on and on.
It only takes you 5 minutes to set up an account at all of these sites and even less time to promote your new post, but the sudden influx of traffic can be fantastic.
After a while you will begin to notice which sites are sending you the most traffic and you can concentrate on them. If you have a spare 5 minutes then try to promote on as much of them as you can because you never know when you’ll strike it lucky.
