Today is the 4th of July - Independence Day for us Americans. There is no other national holiday that inspires quite so much pride in our great country. Each and every year we celebrate the anniversary of that very first 4th of July in 1776, the day a brand new nation officially thrust off the chains of tyranny and began lighting the path to liberty for countless millions around the world.

Independence Day is a happy day for those of us who were lucky enough to be born here or become a naturalized citizen. We enjoy a level of freedom that is unmatched anywhere else on the planet, and we celebrate that freedom in many ways.

Whether it's playing a round of golf, swimming, fishing, or simply lounging around the house waiting for the fireworks display, everyone has a favorite way to celebrate the 4th of July. It is my hope that we'll all take the time to remember how we gained our freedom in the first place and the price that continues to be paid so that we can keep it. It can all be summed up in one picture...today's picture of the day:

They made the 4th of July possible...
