Merv Leonard At The Pickin' Porch
It's no secret that the roots of Bluegrass and Old-Time music run deep in
the southern Appalachian Mountains, but they are also beginning to grow in far
away places as well. There is a growing appreciation for Bluegrass in many
countries around the world, and now American musicians are being welcomed with
open arms all over the globe.
And it goes both ways. The Bristol,
VA-TN area and it's many Bluegrass
music venues are beginning to receive musicians from Europe and Asia who
have learned to love these old music genres. Today's picture features one of
them - Mr. Merv Leonard from the British channel island of Guernsey.
Mr. Leonard gained an appreciation for The
Carter Family on a recent visit to our region, and he subsequently went out
and purchased an autoharp. After a bit of practice, he now plays that timeless
instrument as well as anyone - and he played it for an appreciative audience on
last night's Pickin'
Porch Show!
