'Nook

Our Malanute Nanook

No one really knows where she came from. Did her previous owner drop her off because she was no longer wanted? Did she run away? I guess we'll never know the answer to those questions.

What we do know is that a beautiful malamute just showed up in the neighborhood one day, still stitched up from having been spayed not too long before. After a few days she ended up in the pound, but at the behest of our daughters Amy and Tami my wife went over there and brought her home. That's how Nanook began her new life as a member of our family.

Nook was always a peculiar dog...as nervous as a rat on a sinking ship every time there was a thunderstorm or hot air balloon rally. And if either of them was on its way you would know it well before it actually arrived because of Nook's rapid breathing, high-pitched squeal of a bark and her incessant pacing around in a circle...

But you would be hard-pressed to find a better dog than Nook - in the absence of storms and balloons. A lovely dog inside and out...a malamute through and through and a real joy to be around.

Our beloved Nanook passed away last evening, leaving a void in our family that will likely never be filled. She was with us for about 10 years and we're going to miss her very much, but she is finally free of the terror she had to endure every time thunder shook the ground or a hot air balloon made that distinctive swooshing sound. She has finally found her peace...
