Windsurfing In The Bahamas
Elisabeth Ann Gay.
Most people jump out of the water when they know a storm is approaching, but this
brave windsurfer is taking full advantage of the rough water one stirred up in
Nassau's Goodman's Bay. My, what an ominous looking sky! Photographer Elisabeth Ann Gay braved the
nasty weather as
well in order to capture this amazing image shortly before the deluge hit.
Ann has lived in the Bahamas for 25 years, and she says that Goodman's Bay is a
popular windsurfing and kite boarding venue whenever a cold front passes through
the area every couple of weeks or so during the winter months. In other words,
it is actually quite common to see people out on the water at a time when most
sane folks would be indoors!
The bad weather that made for the spectacular windsurfing that day was actually
the tail end of the storms that tore through the American heartland last week. I
guess it just goes to show that while the Caribbean is indeed a tropical
vacation paradise, the waters do get a bit rough from time to time...much to the
delight of folks like the windsurfer featured in today's picture!
