An Early Morning At Whites Mill
Click photo to enlarge
It's Virginia Highlands Festival time again here in
historic Abingdon,
Virginia, which means thousands of visitors are in town to
experience the interesting arts & crafts displays, antique vendors
and live music that the festival has to offer. But another popular
activity for festival patrons is visiting some of the wonderful
attractions in the Abingdon area - most notably the
Barter Theatre,
the
Martha Washington Inn and historic
Whites Mill.
I got out of bed this morning and discovered that it was going to be
yet another beautiful day here in Abingdon, so I decided to take a
short drive over to Whites Mill and snap off a few early morning
photos. All of the other pictures that I had taken there were taken
in the evening when the "wheel" side of the building was opposite
the setting sun.
When I got over there, I was struck by the way the golden early
morning sun really made the old mill stand out from its
surroundings. I quickly took a few pictures, then headed back
into town to pick up breakfast for Cheria and me. During the drive
home, I kept seeing a mental image of a golden Whites Mill with its
side so beautifully lit by the morning sun. What a way to start the
day!
