The Lantern And The Spider Web

Spider web on our solar lantern.

I woke up and walked outside to discover a damp and hazy morning awaiting me. As I walked around the yard looking at the flowers and enjoying the fresh, cool morning air, I noticed that a spider had spun quite a web overnight between our solar lantern and the shepherd rod that holds it. It looked very pretty in the early morning light, so I went back inside to get my camera.

As I was preparing to take a few pictures, I began thinking about how much work that spider must have done to create such a large web. God had a plan for each and every one of His creatures, and spiders were assigned the task of building webs with which to catch their food...and it amazes me just how well they perform that task. A spider can spin an intricate web, one miniscule silk strand at a time, in what seems to me to be a very short period of time. By morning, they often have their first creature of prey to chow down on.

God uses the nature He created to produce some amazing works of art. Sunlight and water droplets combine to create colorful rainbows while spiders create sculptures as magnificent as anything you'll find in a museum. God's work is perfect. Ours is not. All we can do is marvel at His creations and the creations of his marvelous creatures, but until we meet Him in heaven that will be plenty good enough.
