The Sea Of Galilee
Today's picture features the Sea Of Galilee, the famous body of water
where Jesus stilled the waters during a raging storm and where Peter and Andrew
left their nets in order to follow Jesus. In fact, Galilee and the areas
surrounding it were where Jesus performed many of His miracles - including
walking on water!
The Sea Of Galilee, a sacred place for all Christians, is referenced many times
in the scriptures. Galilee holds such an important place in Christianity that
most Israel vacation packages include a tour of the area.
Galilee isn't really a sea at all by modern standards. It is actually a
pear-shaped freshwater lake that is located in the northwestern part of
Israel. The Jordon river, another prominent body of water in the Bible, serves
as its primary water source.
At just 14 miles long and 8 miles wide at its widest point, there is really
nothing special about the Sea Of Galilee as bodies of water go - there are many
lakes around the world that are much larger and deeper. But the simple fact that
Jesus Christ - the very Son of God - walked upon its shores and upon its waves
makes it a very special place indeed!
