San Francisco Bay

Although relatively small, San Francisco Bay is one of the most well-known
bodies of water in the entire world. The city of San Francisco, California lies
on a peninsula on the western side of the bay while Marin County and Oakland lie
on the eastern side. These two major metropolitan areas are connected by the
engineering marvel known as the Golden
Gate Bridge.
San Francisco Bay is 50 miles long, 13 miles wide at it's widest point, and 100
feet deep in it's deepest spots. It provides recreational activities of all
kinds for bay area residents and visitors to enjoy, but with water temperatures
a bit on the cool side and frequent foggy and windy conditions, only the
hardiest of souls get out on the water on many days.
The very active San Andreas Fault keeps the bay area in a constant state of
readiness in case of an earthquake. In fact, several major quakes have rocked
the area throughout history. But that doesn't deter the area's residents and
visitors - all they care about is the San Francisco Bay's spectacular scenery
and the northern California lifestyle of San Francisco, Oakland and the other
communities in the region.
