A Pennsylvania Farm

A Pennsylvania Farm

The state of Pennsylvania played a major role in American history. Benjamin Franklin and other "founding fathers" of this great country laid much of the groundwork for our drive towards independence in Philadelphia (which later served briefly as the nation's capitol). In Pittsburgh, the steel mills provided much of the staggering amount of steel needed to build a new and growing nation.

And then there is Gettysburg - hallowed ground where one of the most important battles of the Civil War took place. It was also where President Abraham Lincoln delivered one of the most famous speeches of all time: The Gettysburg Address.

But there is a lot more to Pennsylvania than just her bulging cities and historic landmarks. You will also find some of the most beautiful countryside you will ever see there! The Allegheny Mountains are spectacular in autumn as the leaves begin to change colors, and the gently rolling farmland represents the backbone of America: family farms where many generations have helped feed their country and the world.

Today's picture features one such farm near the town of Berlin. It was taken during Amy and Gene's recent trip to Pennsylvania to visit Gene's grandparents.
