Horse Farm Beside The Virginia Creeper Trail

A horse farm beside the Virginia Creeper Trail

When you hike or bike the Virginia Creeper Trail, you'll see one beautiful scene after another including this peaceful view of an Abingdon, Virginia horse farm. This pastoral scene features well-manicured grassy meadows, shade trees, a wood fence and of course a couple of horses. Note: The narrow lane in the photo is a private driveway, not the Virginia Creeper Trail. I was actually standing on the trail when I took the picture.

One would expect to find a scene like this after following the Creeper Trail a few miles out into the countryside, but it actually lies within the Abingdon town limits! To find it, simply get on the trail at the trail head on Green Spring Road and go approximately 3/4 mile and look to your right.

Since it follows an old railroad bed, the Virginia Creeper Trail passes through lots of scenic farmland, especially between Abingdon and Damascus. Along the way you'll see wildflower-filled meadows, ponds, rivers & streams, stately old barns and plenty of animals such as cows, horses, mules, ducks and more.

One of the best ways to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Creeper Trail is on a bicycle. You can either bring your own or rent one at one of several local bike shops for a very reasonable fee.
