Butterfly On A Flower

A butterfly on a flower.

Butterflies are among God's most beautiful and interesting creatures. Their colorful wings entice old and young alike as they flutter around from flower to flower gathering nectar.

The butterfly has quite an interesting life cycle. First, an adult butterfly lays an egg which hatches into a larva (what we know as a caterpillar) in about five days. Next, the caterpillar forms a chrysalis (also called a pupa), that hangs from underneath a leaf while the caterpillar changes into an adult butterfly. Finally, the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis and flies away to get on with it's life. This transformation process is called metamorphosis.

Butterflies are harmless creatures that add a touch of life and beauty to lawns and gardens all around the world. Many people love having butterflies around so much that they grow special plants in their gardens and flower beds in order to attract them. If you would like to do the same, check out this article that explains how to attract butterflies to your garden.
