Dinner At Mom's House
Several members of my family got together at mom's house yesterday to have lunch
and spend the
afternoon with her, and after we had finished off a wonderful home-cooked meal
mom decided that she wanted to do a little
rearranging of the birdfeeders hanging
just outside her living room door. After I had
made the changes she requested, we all sat down in the living room to talk for a
while.
In no time at all several birds had descended upon the birdfeeders to enjoy a
little lunch of their own. Several sparrows and yellow finches jostled for
position with a cardinal and a couple of doves, and they finally succeeded in
taking over the birdfeeders for themselves. I grabbed my camera and snapped a
few pictures through the glass doors and porch railings, not really expecting
them to turn out very well. But after I got home and took a look at them I
decided to use this one for today's picture.
My dad was always a bird lover. He spent much of his time in his golden years on
the couch watching "his" birds frolic around through those same glass doors. Mom
loved watching the birds too, but she was usually busy doing other things like
cleaning the house, cooking meals, or
quilting (one of her favorite activities).
Mom has slowed down a bit now, but she still loves to quilt. And these days she
often does her sewing while sitting in the living room where she can peek at the
birds every now and then as they dine at her birdfeeders. She loves having
company, and it seems that everyone enjoys eating at mom's house!
