The Twin Springs Bluegrass Band

Twin Springs Bluegrass Band

Every Tuesday night during the summer months, live Bluegrass Music is performed under the Country Music Mural on State Street in Bristol, TN.  Bristol and the surrounding areas are home to many professional quality Bluegrass and "Old-Time" musicians who are eager to do their part in keeping the region's rich musical heritage and the memories of our local country music pioneers alive.

One of the very best groups around is Twin Springs Bluegrass Band, featured in today's picture. Powerful vocals and flawless instrumentals are to be expected every time you hear this bunch!

Bass player and lead singer Vickie Austin has a voice that rivals any that you will hear in Nashville, and that's without the aid of fancy studio processing equipment. Her voice is strong and clear and her vocal range is simply amazing. But her enthusiasm is what really sets Vickie apart - you can tell she absolutely loves performing Bluegrass Music!

Vickie's husband Tommy is not only an excellent singer and award winning song writer, he also plays the mandolin as well as it can possibly be played. Tommy sings lead and accompanies Vickie with his velvety voice on many of the great songs he has written.

Before heading off to college at ETSU, Todd Meade (Vickie's cousin) played his beloved 1920's era French-made fiddle as one of Dr. Ralph Stanley's famed Clinch Mountain Boys. Enough said.

Rounding out the group are Matt Bright (another cousin of Vickie's) on guitar and Matthew Cruby on banjo, both superb musicians who really know how to pick Bluegrass tunes. These guys can often be seen around the area picking with various Bluegrass musicians and just generally having a great time making great music.

Twin Springs Bluegrass is just one of the wonderfully talented Bluegrass groups you might hear, free of charge, when you drop in at the State Street mural on a warm Tuesday night. Bring a lawn chair and a love for great Bluegrass Music and you won't be disappointed!
