Windows XP: Turn Off The CD/DVD Drive's Autoplay

How to disable the autoplay feature of your CD or DVD drive

Do you frequently insert a CD or DVD into the drive, only to have it start playing automatically? Would you prefer to work with your discs manually instead of having them start on their own?

Here is how to disable the autoplay feature:

  1. Double-click My Computer
  2. Right-click the CD or DVD drive
  3. Click Properties
  4. Click Autoplay
  5. Select a media type from the drop-down box
  6. Select the proper action to perform when a disc is loaded
  7. Click Ok
Now whenever you insert a CD or DVD into the drive, it will perform the desired action automatically. If you chose Take no action, nothing will happen at all!
