A Snowmobile Bridge In Ontario, Canada
A few weeks ago, Jeffrey Martin and his dad Scott embarked on a six hundred mile
snowmobile trip around Lake Nipissing (located in Ontario's beautiful Parry
Sound region).
On the first day of their adventure, they crossed this 420 foot snowmobile
bridge that spans the Pickerel River southwest of the lake. They also crossed a
similar 520 foot bridge spanning the nearby French River. It is believed that
these two bridges are the longest dedicated snowmobile bridges in the
world, and crossing them was the highlight of their entire trip!
During the snowmobile season, only snowmobiles are allowed on the bridges, but
during the rest of the year the snowmobile trails are used as hiking trails and
pedestrians are allowed to cross.
These interesting bridges were completed about two years ago at a total
cost of $1,000,000, funded by a combination of provincial government funding,
local businesses and the provincial federation of snowmobile clubs.
