Sled Dogs In Antarctica

Dogs are more than simply "man's best friend"... they are also his most loyal workers. For thousands of years, humans have used dogs for numerous tasks, some of them quite dangerous and exhausting.

In ancient times, dogs helped shepherds keep their sheep under control. During the years when a young America was expanding into the west, dogs helped drive the cattle that fed the growing nation.

Today, in addition to those timeless occupations, they help the police keep our streets and neighborhoods safe, assist sight-impaired individuals and much, much more. We're able to enjoy much better lives because of our canine friends!

Today's photo features a pack of beautiful sled dogs serving man once again on the frigid continent of Antarctica. Sled dogs are used extensively in the colder regions of the earth, and no place on the planet is colder than the Antarctic.

Sled dogs are amazing animals. In addition to being among the most beautiful dogs in the world, they are also among the strongest. Their tremendous lung capacity and ability to work extremely well together enable them to pull a sled loaded with freight (and the musher) over long distances for extended periods of time. And they do it in the world's most inhospitable climates.

Dogs... It's hard to imagine what life would be like without them!
