Niagara Falls On A Cloudy Day
One of the earth's most
beautiful natural wonders is awesome Niagara Falls located on the
U.S.-Canadian border near Buffalo, NY. Niagara Falls is a very popular tourist
attraction, drawing approximately 12 million visitors each year from all over
the globe. The Canadian "Horseshoe Falls" section is a favorite of
honeymooners because it is believed to be a symbol of good luck.
The height of the Canadian Falls is approximately 170 feet, but the river at the
base of the waterfall is even deeper than that at an estimated 185 feet. An
amazing 9,000,000 gallons of water flows over the crest each and every minute.
Yes, that's really 9 million gallons per minute! And even more amazing is the fact that Niagara Falls is actually moving up the
Niagara river at a fairly steady pace - in fact, due to erosion the falls have
moved upstream about 7 miles in the last 12,000 years!
Niagara Falls is the second largest waterfall on the planet - only Africa's
Victoria Falls is larger. With it's ever-present mist and occasional circular
rainbows, Niagara is a photographer's dream - the falls are one of the most
photographed natural wonders in the world.
Getting to Niagara Falls is easy - just come to Buffalo, New York or Ontario,
Canada and follow the signs!
