The Moon Over Boulder, Colorado
Photo copyright 2005 Daniel Speck, FreeStockPhotos.com.
The moon has been photographed millions of times, often with spectacular
results. Today's photo of the moon glowing brightly over the city of Boulder,
Colorado is a perfect example.
Nighttime photography
presents some special challenges, even for an experienced photographer. Exposure
times, shutter speeds and film speed must all be adjusted to compensate for the
low-light environment. Getting it right isn't easy, but when you do the
resulting picture is a masterpiece.
In the photo above, the moon casts an orange glow above the city lights,
providing a stark contrast in colors and light levels. The night sky over any
city makes for a great picture, and a full moon makes it even better!
If you're interested in nighttime photography, load up your camera, a tripod and
some hot coffee, then head for the hills or some other high vantage point.
Practice and practice some more... but most of all have fun! You'll soon have
lots of great masterpieces for your portfolio!
