Autumn View Of Montreal

Autumn scene in Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Canada's province of Quebec boasts one of the world's most unique cities: Montreal. Nowhere else outside the borders of France itself will you find a city with as much French history and culture.

The city of Montreal is located on Montreal Island, which itself is located where the St. Lawrence River and Ottawa River merge. Montreal's climate is a cold and snowy one - in fact the city receives an average of 84 inches of snow per year, and of course the great popularity of such winter-time activities as ice hockey, skating and skiing reflect that fact.

Montreal is the largest city in Canada and one of North America's great cultural centers. There are lots of fine dining restaurants, museums, and historic buildings that are often frequented by locals and vacationers alike. Several very popular festivals are held in Montreal as well - it seems like there is always one festival or another going on.

Much of Montreal's culture reflects the city's French roots. Most of the people who live in Montreal's metropolitan area are of French decent, and they speak that language. English is also spoken there by a sizable minority, but it is quite clear that Montreal is French through and through!

If you're seeking an exciting vacation in a North American city that has a distinct European flavor, you should definitely consider visiting Montreal - the jewel of the "great white north"!
