Mom Talking On The Phone

Today's picture features a scene that probably appears to be rather mundane to most people: a woman talking on the telephone. But this is no ordinary woman...it's my mom. And those who know and love her understand very well that talking on the phone is a defining aspect of mom's life.

Simply put, mom is a "people person". She loves people and she loves talking to most anyone who is willing to carry on a conversation with her. Mom is the kind of person who can get into a line with 20 strangers and end up knowing half of them on a first name basis by the time she gets through it. You'll probably never meet a more outgoing person!

She just loves having company over. She can sit and talk to old friends and strangers alike for hours on end with a genuine interest in the things that are important to them or "bothering" them at the time. Inquisitive by nature, she enjoys finding out what's on a person's mind and what makes them tick. Of course that goes the other way too...she loves to talk about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with anyone who will listen!

Some people are wallflowers who are content to stand in the background and let other people approach them, and that's fine - thank God that we all have different personalities and attitudes - but mom is the one who seeks them out, inviting them to join in on the fun. One of her missions in life has always been to make everyone feel welcome and at ease when they're in her presence and she has always been very successful at it.

Mom has shared her gift of gab with others for going on eight decades now, but these days she doesn't feel like getting out of the house as much as she used to. That's why today's picture is so special to me...she can still talk on the telephone and brighten up someone's day!
