A Beautiful Ketchikan, Alaska Sunrise
Most Americans are somewhat familiar with the state of
Alaska. For example, they
know that Alaska is the northernmost state in the union as well as the largest.
They also know that the winters are very cold. But what many of us don't
know is that it also boasts some of the most stunning scenery on the planet.
A prime example of Alaska's pristine beauty is featured in today's picture. It was taken by
Mr. David Albertson as he was kayaking near his Ketchikan, Alaska home on
Christmas morning of last year. The morning sun was peeking from behind a cloud, casting just
enough light on the calm ocean to show a passing kayaker in perfect silhouette.
David was new to photography when he snapped this shot but you would never know
it by the quality of the image!
The beautiful town of Ketchikan is located just 235 miles southeast of Juneau on
Revillagigedo Island's Pacific coast. The town was founded in the 1880's after
salmon processing facilities were built there. Now known as the "Salmon Capitol
of the World", Ketchikan is a highly regarded outdoorsman's paradise. During the summer
months the town plays host to visitors from all around the globe who come for
the sport fishing, kayaking and sightseeing opportunities.
Alaska is one of America's most popular vacation destinations, and David's
stunning photo makes it easy to see why. You're invited to visit "The Last
Frontier" and see for yourself what makes this wonderful state so special!
