Irises, A Stream & Mom

Irises growing beside a stream

The scene in today's picture could easily be in a park somewhere, but it isn't. It's actually just a stream running through Greeneville, TN with some irises growing on the bank beside it. Irises are common around Greeneville - you can find them growing almost anywhere around town, even in the most unlikely places.

The iris has always been one of my favorite flowers, probably because it was one of my mom's favorites. We lived in several places when I was growing up, and mom almost always had several clumps of spectacular irises growing in the yard. Each spring would bring a bountiful crop of purple iris blossoms contrasting perfectly against the lawn's lush green of early-spring.

Even today, Mom still has plenty of purple irises adorning her yard. When my brother sent me this picture it brought back memories of old and reminded me of a special gift we share today... our precious mother and her ever-present flower gardens.
