Three Beautiful Flags Flying In The Wind

Three beautiful flags...

For thousands of years, people who share a common bond have used flags as visual symbols to the rest of the world. National flags, state flags, religious flags, and organizational flags fly high throughout cities and towns all around the world, marking the pride and beliefs of thousands of various groups both large and small.

There are many beautiful flags to be found around the globe today, and three of the most beautiful of all are featured in today's picture: the Stars and Stripes, the Christian Flag and the Flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia. I love all three of these flags, not only because of the way they look but also because of what they stand for.
The Stars and Stripes - the American Flag - is the proud symbol of our great nation. Her 50 stars represent each of the individual states that make up our country today while the 13 stripes will forever represent the history and legacy of the original 13 colonies that banded together to fight for independence and autonomy from a tyrannical kingdom.

The Christian Flag is the symbol of Christians everywhere. The red cross stands for the Christian faith, a powerful symbol of God's love for man - even after sin had been initiated by Adam and Eve. It also represents the promise of eternal life that Jesus bought and paid for on the cross at Calvary. The blue represents Jesus' endless faithfulness even unto death. The white background signifies the purity, innocence and peace of our loving God and His beloved Son.

The Flag of the Commonwealth of Virginia reflects our rich history and the prominent role Virginians played in gaining our independence from the mother country. The female figure standing over a vanquished tyrant represents liberty - and our will to attain it and keep it. The caption Sic Semper Tyrannus is a latin phrase that means "Thus Ever to Tyrants", a fitting motto for a proud state that played such an important role in the American revolution.

The three flags featured in today's picture are very important symbols for me and countless other Virginians who love their God, their country and their state. Beauty abounds on these three simple pieces of cloth, and I'll go to my grave being proud of each of them and what they represent.
