Country Church In Winter

Country Church In Winter

There are some things that bring back fond memories of our childhood when we see them. For me, two of those things are quaint country churches and a snow-covered winter wonderland. Today's Picture-Of-The-Day features both of them.

I grew up attending Pleasant View Baptist Church, a beautiful old country church that still sits on a hill just a few miles from Damascus, Va in Widener Valley. Standing outside in the churchyard you are treated to a magnificent view of the valley below, complete with picturesque pasture fields framed by the mountains in the background.

During the winter time that amazing view was made even more memorable by frequent blankets of snow that covered everything in sight. You could look out over the valley and watch the cattle eat from haystacks that had been strategically placed by the farmers. Children would enjoy the snowy weather by sledding in yards and hills throughout the valley.

I don't know where the church in this photo is located. The picture just spoke to me when I saw it, reminding me of those wonderful childhood memories.
