The beautiful city of Boston, Massachusetts is one of a
handful of places that help define America in the eyes of the
world. Many of our nation's most important historical events took
place in Boston, and today this vibrant city - the largest in New
England - serves as the capitol of the state of Massachusetts as
well as
the cultural and economic hub of the region.
Although it is one of the oldest municipalities in the country,
modern Boston is on the cutting edge of society and technology. This
remarkable city is home to numerous institutions of higher learning,
some of the world's most renowned medical facilities, and world
championship sports teams. When the world's best and brightest go
searching for opportunity, they most often find it in Boston. As a
result, this amazing city is one of the western hemisphere's most
affluent population centers.
Millions of people visit Boston each and every year. They come on
business, to watch a professional sporting event, or simply to walk
through some of America's most historic neighborhoods. Travel and Tourism is a major
industry for Boston, and with so much to see and do here it's easy
to see why. After all, Boston isn't just the cradle of the
American Revolution, it is also one of the brightest lights guiding
our nation and the world into the future.
About the photo: On December 1, 2005, photographer Jan Stenman
took this wonderful photo of Boston's Back Bay skyline from
across the Charles River in Cambridge, MA. The image features two of
New England's largest and most well-known structures: the John
Hancock Building (on the left) and the Prudential Center (in the
middle). You can see a lot more of Jan's beautiful images of Boston
here.
