Washington County, Va Animal Shelter

Today's picture features one of the beautiful dogs available for adoption at the Washington County C.C. Porter Animal Shelter near Abingdon, Virginia. They almost always have several beautiful and friendly dogs and cats just waiting for someone to fall in love with them and offer them a loving home.

The Washington County Sheriffs Department and its Animal Control officers do a wonderful job taking care of the animals, but the task is huge and many of the animals will unfortunately end up having to be euthanized. The Animal Defense League of Washington County is very active in finding good homes for a large number of the animals, but they need our help.

How can I help, you ask? Well, there are a couple of ways you can help rescue more of these beautiful animals:

First of all, don't go to a pet store and buy your next pet for hundreds of dollars. Instead, stop by the Washington County C.C. Porter Animal Shelter at 27252 Porter Lane and adopt one! If you're like me, you simply won't be able to walk away without falling in love with one of the friendly dogs and cats you'll find there. Why pay big bucks for a pet when you can get one just as beautiful and friendly for next to nothing - and save it from having to be euthanized to boot? It's truly a win-win situation!

The second way you can help is to volunteer your time and/or make a cash donation to the Washington County Animal Defense League. For more information on becoming a volunteer or purchasing a membership, click here.

Our next pet will come from the animal shelter and I hope yours will too. Open your heart and home to one of these beautiful animals and you'll probably get back more love than you give!

Note: If you don't live in or near the Washington County, Virginia area you're not out of luck! Virtually every part of the country has animal shelters. All you have to do is find out where yours is located and pay them a visit!
